Insurance FAQS
Insurance Questions? We’ve got answers.
Our insurance FAQs are designed to answer common questions about coverage, claims, deductibles, liability, and more. Whether you’re exploring your options or reviewing an existing policy, our team is here to help you understand your coverage and make informed insurance decisions.
How do I know which coverage is right for me?
The right limits depend on what you own, what you need to protect, your budget, and any lender or legal requirements. We walk through those details with you so your coverage fits your situation.
What should I do after a loss?
Your safety comes first. If it’s safe to do so, take photos of the damage, document what happened, and take reasonable steps to prevent further damage. Keep any receipts related to temporary repairs, and contact your insurance carrier or our team as soon as possible for guidance.
Is flood insurance included in homeowners coverage?
Usually, no. Flood insurance is typically a separate policy, making it important to review your property and risk.
What information do I need for a quote?
To begin your quote, we need addresses, vehicle or property details, driver information, and current coverage.
Why is my home insured for more than I paid for it?
Insurance companies base home coverage on rebuilding costs, not market value or purchase price. Rebuilding costs can include labor, materials, and construction expenses, which may differ from what you originally paid for the home.
Should I file a claim?
Every situation is different. Before filing a claim, it’s often helpful to consider the amount of damage, your deductible, and whether the loss may be covered. If you’re unsure, our team is happy to help you understand your options and what to expect.
What is ACV vs. RCV?
Actual Cash Value (ACV) pays the value of your damaged property after depreciation is taken into account. In other words, it considers the item’s age and condition at the time of the loss.
Replacement Cost Value (RCV) helps pay to replace the damaged item with a new one of similar kind and quality, without subtracting depreciation. Depending on your policy, you may need to replace the item before receiving the full replacement cost payment.
Does insurance cover water damage?
It depends on what caused the damage. Most homeowners insurance policies cover sudden and accidental water damage, such as a burst pipe or an overflowing appliance. However, damage caused by flooding, sewer backups (unless additional coverage is added), or ongoing maintenance issues is typically not covered.
What does liability insurance cover?
Liability insurance helps pay for injuries or property damage you cause to others if you’re found responsible for a covered incident. It may also help cover legal expenses if you’re sued. However, liability insurance does not cover damage to your own property or injuries to you, which may require additional coverage.
What is the difference between comprehensive and collision coverage?
Collision Coverage helps pay to repair or replace your vehicle if it’s damaged in an accident involving another vehicle or object, regardless of who is at fault.
Comprehensive Coverage helps protect your vehicle from non-collision events such as theft, vandalism, hail, fire, falling objects, or hitting an animal.
